IT HAPPENED TO JEREMIAH AND IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU
I don’t know if something similar has happened to you before. You’re trying to do what is right, yet you’re criticized for it; you’re trying to enrich your city and to add value to your school and church, and someone doesn’t like it so they make your life miserable.
In a moment of rage and desperation Jeremiah said, “… Pashhur, the Lord has changed your name. From now on you are to be called ‘The Man Who Lives in Terror’” (Jeremiah 20:3 NLT). He continued saying, “You are a terror to all believers. You are a terror to my life. I was trying to prophesy, to preach and to do what is good, and you imprisoned me”. Sometimes, this too can happen to the modern-day believers. You might feel as if you are doing the best you can to spread the Good News, but someone in your family doesn’t like what you are doing, so it feels like you’re under a terrorist attack.
Why do we preach the gospel?
1. Because it is a mandate.
We are called to preach the Word, it is not an option but a mandate. If we stop preaching, then we will stop the expansion of the Kingdom of Heavens. Why do we have massive baptisms? Because the Bible tells us to go and make disciples (Matthew 19 and 20). It tells us to make disciples in all the nations and to baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28).
2. Because there is a need.
A few months ago, a young man that was 22 years old had an argument with his younger brother, shot him and killed him. We have gotten to a stage in our world where we must preach because people are losing their sanity. People no longer have peace. Wickedness and death has transformed their hearts and minds. There is hatred, vengeance, fears, resentment, and bitterness everywhere.
Why do we need to preach? Because it is a mandate and because there is a need. Eagles CFC cannot and will not stay quiet, even if we are persecuted, for we know we were born to preach the gospel.
Think about it:
What are you doing right now to preach the Word of God? What kind of example are you giving those who surround you?
Are you preaching with your example?
