The fundamental law of the temple

THE FUNDAMENTAL LAW OF THE TEMPLE

“This is the law of the temple: All the surrounding area on top of the mountain will be most holy. Such is the law of the temple” (Ezekiel 43:12 NLT).

This passage is referring to a building called a temple and it says that it must be absolutely holy. However, let’s remember that our bodies are also called the temple of the Holy Spirit and it too must remain holy.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV).

Holiness talks about dedicating or setting something apart for God’s exclusive use. For instance, the building we call temple cannot be used as a bar, a brothel nor anything else that goes against anything that represents God, because then it wouldn’t be holy.

In the same way, our bodies which are the temple of the Holy Spirit cannot be used to commit adultery, neither to get drunk, high nor for any other use that does not represent God. This means that our bodies must be set apart and dedicated for the Lord’s use. In other words, our bodies must be ready so that His anointing flows through our hands in order to heal the sick.

Holiness is a fundamental mandate for us. Therefore, we need to take responsibility and live in holiness so that God can continue to use us. We need to take care of our bodies, our lives, what we listen to, and what we see. Also, we need to watch what we eat, exercise and physcially rest.

It is true that we are in the world and it is inevitable to see and hear certain things, nevertheless, we must take care of our holiness and testimony. We are not perfect, but we can be people who keep their hearts aligned to God despite the circumstances in our lives.

“This is the law of the temple: All the surrounding area on top of the mountain will be most holy. Such is the law of the temple” (Ezekiel 43:12 NLT).

Think about it:

How can you take care of your temple today?
What adjustments or changes do you need to make to maintain your holiness?
