A simple stone used by God

A SIMPLE STONE USED BY GOD

Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking   around, because he was not used to them. “I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off. Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine  (1 Samuel 17:38-40 NIV).

Many times we try to do things in our own name and we get frustrated because we use our own strength. David did not want to use the typical armor Saul gave him;instead he wanted to use a simple stone that was used by God.

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel…

Everything Dinora and I have done is because of our dependence on God and His direction:

  • We moved to Las Vegas because we depended on God.
  • We accepted to be pastors because of the Lord’s direction.
  • We let go of our secular jobs because we trusted in God.
  • We took on the challenge to build a temple during a time of crisis while depending on Him.
  • We prayed for the sick and depended on the Heavenly Father.
  • We believe in people while we trust in Him.
  • We make disciples and leaders for the Lord.

This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head (1 Samuel 17:46 NIV).

Lord, help me never to depend on my own human abilities or be afraid; but instead to always do every project in your name.

Think about it:

At home, your job, the ministry or business have you been fighting in your own strength or in the Lord’s?

What has been the outcome when you fight in your own strength?
