When you wait on God

WHEN YOU WAIT ON GOD

I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. (Psalm 40:1-2 NIV)

Allow me to explain these verses phrase by phrase.

1.- He lifted me out of the slimy pit.  This speaks of helping you out of the pit of confusion. When a person is drowning, they become desperate and filled with panic, and in their confusion, they can even cause the person helping them to drown. A desperate spouse can drown others in his or her home when they are desperate and confused. The good news is that God wants to take you out of that pit if you are going through a similar situation.

2.- Out of the mud and mire.
The mud signifies things that can stain your reputation and character. A confused person sometimes worsens a situation due to pain and hate, and gets muddy with addictions, theft, adultery, lies, etc.

3.- He set my feet on a rock and gives me a firm place to stand.
This speaks about affirmation. The mud signifies a place that is not firm, where other people can easily make you slip. But God says that He puts your feet on a rock and gives you a firm place to stand where you feel secure in life. Others criticism and destruction don’t matter, God affirms you and places you on high.

4.- He straightens my path.
This speaks about purpose, about giving you direction when your steps were going the wrong way. In their desperation, many people stray from the right path, and turn into problematic people to society, unproductive and wander in life. They are no longer living, but simply existing. However, God gives you purpose in life again. You stop going through life wondering what you’re alive for and begin to clearly see why you were born, becoming a productive person who enjoys life.

I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. (Psalm 40:1-2 NIV)

Think about it:

What situation were you becoming desperate with and need to give to God?

Is there something you have been doing that is not healthy to you or your family?

Where do you need God to rescue you from?
