Dangers of impatience

DANGERS OF IMPATIENCE

Just as Saul was finishing with the burnt offering, Samuel arrived. Saul went out to meet and welcome him, but Samuel said, “What is this you have done?” Saul replied, “I saw my men scattering from me, and you didn’t arrive when you said you would, and the Philistines are at Micmash ready for battle.  So I said, ‘The Philistines are ready to march against us at Gilgal, and I haven’t even asked for the Lord’s help!’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering myself before you came.” (1 Samuel 13:10-12 NLT)

NOT TRUSTING GOD. King Saul did not trust Prophet Samuel. He believed that Samuel wouldn’t come and did the sacrifice himself. But Samuel did come on time. Many of us can think that Saul was right in not trusting Samuel, because he was human and could fail, get sick, or lied, but there is no reason to doubt God. He does not lie, fail, forget, or neglect. He who is untrusting of God is sinning, because God is worthy of all trust. Impatience shows distrust in God.

DO FOOLISHNESS. No man could present the sacrifice if he were not a priest, even if it was a king. Saul did a foolish thing by doing something that was not allowed to him to do.

“How foolish!” Samuel exclaimed. “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you. Had you kept it, the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. (1 Samuel 13:13 NLT)

How many things have we done out of impatience? What would God tell us? “You have done this foolishly.” Did you sell the land? Did you go to a witch? Did you dirty your things? You have done it foolishly.

BLAME GOD. Saul told Samuel: “I saw my men scattering from me, and you didn’t arrive when you said you would… So I felt compelled…

An impatient person generally does not accept responsibility for the foolish things he does, rather blame it on someone else. Saul blamed Samuel for the foolishness he did, and many Christians blame God for the foolish things they do. If things go wrong for us, it’s because we have not learned to wait on Him.

Patience is a fruit of the Spirit. The best things are obtained when we wait. To be born, we have to wait. To walk, we have to wait. To eat solid foods, we must wait. To date someone, get married and have kids, we must wait.

There are moments when to act and execute things, but even then, we must wait for that moment. Saul had waited seven days, and just a few minutes more could’ve changed history. Don’t be impatient, wait on God and He will do it!

Think about it:

What foolish things have you done out of impatience? What consequences did you have?
Have you blamed God or others when you didn’t see the results you wanted in the moment you wanted?
