DANGERS WE SHOULD AVOID IN THIS SEASON
Christmas time is a time to enjoy, but unfortunately, there are many people that get sad and don’t enjoy this time. There are four dangers we should avoid. Today we will learn two and tomorrow we will learn two more to be able to enjoy these festive times without being sad, rather joyful and peaceful.
1.- Destructive melancholy. (Luke. 2:10)
- Even though the exact date Jesus was born is unknown, the world celebrates this day in December. When the announcement was made that Jesus had been born, it was given as a joyful message because of the blessing that had come to the earth.
- But, there are people that are easily betrayed by their emotions during this season. They lose control emotionally and fall into sadness, depression, some sleep more, others eat more, others work in excess to try to cover up the memories of this season.
- As Christians, we should focus on the reason for which we celebrate Christmas. For us, it should be a time to reflect on what Christ has done in our lives and how He was the true Christmas gift, since He came to the world to offer himself to save humanity.
2.- Places and celebrations that only destroy.
Who has anguish? Who has sorrow? Who is always fighting? Who is always complaining?
Who has unnecessary bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? It is the one who spends long hours in the taverns, trying out new drinks. Don’t gaze at the wine, seeing how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smoothly it goes down. For in the end it bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper. (Prov. 23.29-32)
- As children of God, we should avoid all types of parties where alcohol and drugs are present, since all those things simply cause problems and many times end tragically.
- We should avoid meeting with friends or family members that are negative, don’t have vision and are depressed, unless we can be of influence to them. But, if they are the ones who will influence us, it’s better to simply avoid going.
Think about it:
What can you do to avoid melancholy during this time period?
What reasons do you have to be joyful for what God has during in your life this year?
What people should you avoid at parties and get-togethers?
