Practice what you preach

PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH

… The Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you. (Rom. 2:24 NLT)

Let’s not be a stumbling block.

This week in the news, a pastor was accused of immorality, a film director was accused of sexual scandals, a politician was accused of abusing power … What is happening to us?

These people affected society; they have a negative effect on those who admired them as leaders.

We must live in awareness that our example speaks louder than our words.

For example, a child who was being corrected by his father replied: “Sorry Daddy, I can’t hear what you’re saying, I’m stunned, your actions speak louder than your mouth.”

Ouch! How many times has that happened to us at work, at a restaurant, school, or the playground?

Isn’t strange that some people reject God and Christianity because of the example of those who call themselves Christians.

Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal? You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you commit adultery? You condemn idolatry, but do you use items stolen from pagan temples?  You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it. No wonder the Scriptures say, “The Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you. (Romans 2:21-24 NLT)

Lord, help me to reflect your character a little more every day:

  • Speaking with more wisdom.
  • Being more patient with others.
  • Having self-control and not being explosive.
  • May my conversations be clean, productive and not vulgar.
  • Living with more joy.
  • Doing everything I do joyfully, not complaining.
  • Being more generous and not stingy.

Think about it:

What example are you giving to those around you?
Are there people who admire you?
How are your usual conversations?
