Forced rest by covid

FORCED REST BY COVID
VS THE ORIGINAL PURPOSE OF THE DAY OF REST

… And I gave them my Sabbath days of rest as a sign between them and me. It was to remind them that I am the Lord, who had set them apart to be holy.(Ezequiel 20:12 NLT)

  1. The purpose of the day of rest is to maintain us connected to God.
  2. It’s to remind us that He is the source of all that we need.
  3. It is to remind ourselves that we are not ordinary people, nor do we act irresponsibly like the rest.
… And I gave them my Sabbath days of rest as a sign between them and me. It was to remind them that I am the Lord, who had set them apart to be holy.(Ezekiel 20:12 NLT)

I believe that in this pandemic the Lord is giving us the opportunity to stop our tiring lifestyle and have time to reflect and take advantage of the rest.

If we had reserved one day a week of true rest and connection with God, all these months of forced slow down by the pandemic would not have been necessary.

I think most human beings have not understood the purpose of the day of rest. We get wrapped up in materialism and the rush of life and use every day of the week on different tasks, ignoring the purpose of having a day off.

We think that “rest day” speaks only of the day that we don’t work in our normal job, and we continue to use that day for other types of work, overtime, a second job, starting our own business, etc. But then the objective of reflecting and getting closer to God is not met.

All these activities consume our time and strength, and don’t allow us to be conscious of God in our life.

There I gave them my decrees and regulations so they could find life by keeping them. And I gave them my Sabbath days of rest as a sign between them and me. It was to remind them that I am the Lord, who had set them apart to be holy. (Ezekiel 20:11-12 NLT)

The day of rest allows us to stop, reflect, to remember our dependence on God and maintain connected to him.

Think about it:

Have you taken time to reflect on your life and what God wants?
Have you connected more with God in this time or are you working more?
Have you acted like ordinary people at this time or are you still living in holiness?
