Obedience to our convictions – part 2

OBEDIENCE TO OUR CONVICTIONS
BRINGS REWARDS II

So we have obeyed him in all these things. We have never had a drink of wine to this day, nor have our wives, our sons, or our daughters.
(Jeremiah 35:8 NLT)

The Rechabites decided to obey their ancestors and when they were tested in their convictions they remained firm in not drinking wine. They didn’t give into temptations and were rewarded:

3. The rewards.
Obedience to our convictions will always pay off.
Let’s not give in to pressure from others.
Just because most do something it doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.
Example: Just because most people drink alcohol it doesn’t mean that it’s convenient for me.
Let’s not give in to the temptation of easy and bad money.
Let’s not give in to temptations that violate our values.
Let’s not give in to doing things that violate our conscience.
Let us obey our convictions and we will receive the rewards.

Then Jeremiah turned to the Recabites and said, “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed your ancestor Jehonadab in every respect, following all his instructions.’ Therefore, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Jehonadab son of Recab will always have descendants who serve me.’” (Jeremiah 35:18-19 NLT)

Think about it:
Is it easy for you to give in your convictions to pressure from others?
What values are important to you?
Do you usually get carried away by what others do?
